Measurement of the Fat Amounts of Applicants of ROKAF Academy by Means-of Skin-fold and Anthropometric Methods.

Abstract
In the physical characterization of an individual, a measure of body weight is of fundamental importance for pilots.
Since the first report by Behnke(l-s) in 1942, It has been generally accepted that "Lean Body Weight"(L. B. W.) or "Fat Free Body Weight"(F. F. W.) is much better expression of body size for many purposes than total body weight. a)
In this Report, the Skin-fold thickness at four sites of body, and F. F. W. was calculated by Dobeln¢¥s"i) equation in the 226 Korean young men, who were applicants of ROKAF Academy, from 17 to 20 years of age.
As a result of this survey, the following conclusions were obtained;
1) The mean skin-fold thickness measured with lange skin-fold caliper
(Manufactured by Cambridge Scientific Industrial INC U.S.A.) were; at the Back (Sub-scapular) : 8.62¡¾1.62(mm)
Waist : 7.53¡¾2.0 (mm)
Arm (Triceps) : 6.85¡¾1.62(mm)
Juxt nipple 5.82¡¾1.15(mm)
2) These value were lower than that of ROKAF pilots. (2)
3) The mean F.F.W. of 226 subjects(Mean age : 18.6 years).
Calculated by Von Dobeln¢¥s anthropometric method(using martin anthropometer)(10) was 50..3 kg(Fat weight ; 8.6 kg, Fat Amount ; 11.8¡Æ0 of body weight).
4) In this survey, the total fat amount(12.3-14.5 %) was in the range of healthy subject(10-15 0).
